Cy5 labeled Chloroquine is one of SLT's near infrared fluorescent bioactive probes  that can be used for bacterium imaging and detection.  Chloroquine is a small molecule used to treat malaria. The resistance of malaria bacterium to chloroquine obliviates the use of this molecule to treat malaria. Fluorescently labeled chloroquine, however, shows increased use in the imaging and detection of bacterium, such as Plasmodium falciparium, both in-vitro and in-vivo.  Chloroquine Cy5 conjugate gives bright near infrared fluorescent light upon excited at 650 nm.
