Fluorescein maleimide (FL-Mal) is one of SLT's functional fluorescein derivatives that has a reactive maleimide group. Maleimide group can react with sulfhydryl (thiol) group easily and quickly at neutral pH. Reaction between maleimide and thiol forms a stable thio-ether bond. Maleimide functional fluorescein is a green fluorescent dye that emits strong fluorescence light around 515 nm upon excited at 495 nm.
