Ruthenium-RU600-Maleimide (Ru(bpy)3-Maleimide) is one of SLT's reactive ruthenium dyes that emits strong red fluorescent light. Ruthenium is a rare transition metal and some of its complexes gave strong luminescence upon excited by UV light. Compared to other organic fluorescent dyes, ruthenium based fluorophores have large stoke shift, exceptional long fluorescent life time and excellent photo-stability. Because of its special photo property, ruthenium dyes are useful in two-photon imaging. They are also excellent dyes in electroluminescent applications.

Ruthenium-RU600-Maleimide is an excellent ruthenium dye from SLT that can react with sulfhydryl groups (Thiol, -SH) easily at neutral pH (6.5-7.5). Reaction between RU600-Maleimide and sulfhydryl group allows the conjugation of ruthenium dyes to various biomolecules such as antibodies, enzymes, proteins, etc.
